New Poll Reveals That 22% of Middle Class Americans Would Rather “Die Early” Than Not Have Enough Money to Live Comfortably In Retirement

It’s true. A newly released Harris poll revealed some startling facts about how unprepared most Americans are for their retirement years.

The most shocking data revealed that 22% of people who consider themselves middle class, would actually rather die early, than to face their retirement years without enough money to live at the comfort level they wish.

Here are some more of the grim statistics.

Almost half of non-retirees are not confident that they have saved enough to live the lifestyle they want in retirement. Not surprisingly, this lack of confidence jumps to a whopping 71% for non-retirees between the age of 50 and 59. Sadly 25% of all middle class Americans say they “get depressed” when they think about their financial life during retirement.

The poll actually found that 34% of the middle class are saving and contributing nothing at all to their retirement fund, 401(k) or IRA. Additionally, 41% of people between 50 to 59 years old are saving nothing at all for retirement.
